Irrfan was born and raised in Jaipur near Ramgarh Mod area, adjacent to the famous Jal Mahal area. He lived a humble childhood but with big dreams. He wanted to become a cricketer in his initial years but could not do so due to the financial crisis.
The destiny took a turn, and he got admission in the prestigious National School of Drama. However, it was the beginning of the struggle. He did small roles in Chandrakanta, Chanakya and other Doordarshan serials.
In this illustrious and stellar career, he received a national award, Filmfare and several recognitions like Padma Shri. Although his debut film was Salaam Bombay, 1988, he got his real breakthrough with the film Hollywood film The warrior (2001).
He received accolades for his portrayal in Oscar-winning films like the Life of Pi and Slumdog Millionaire. Besides, he shot to fame with The Amazing Spider-Man, Inferno (Felicity Jones and Tom Hanks), Jurassic World (Chris Pratt). His last film was Angrezi Medium in 2020.
Apart from those, Piku, Haasil, Paan Singh Tomar, Maqbool, Talvar, The Lunchbox, Life in a Metro, The Namesake are some of his finest works. Billu remains one of my personal favourites. As a writer and fellow Jaipurite, we all feel the pain that he has left for the heavenly abode. Irrfan is now survived by his two sons and wife Sutapa. May God bless him.
